Learning is Fun at ABQ's Playroom!


We have enrichment programs for children ages 6 months to 9 years old. We encourage your child to develop social, physical, intellectual and sensory skills through our hands-on learning activities, led by experienced instructors. We invite you to come and experience our unique enrichment programs.


January - August, 2012 Enrichment Classes

Programs: The Spring & Summer 2012 Enrichment Classes are made up of three programs: Little Picasso (art classes), Kindermusik (music classes) and Robotics with LEGO . Please see class descriptions (below) for specific dates, times and fees. 

Sessions:
  We will run three sessions: January 8 through March 1, March 19 through May 10, and June 5 through August 4. Please see class descriptions (below) for specific dates, times and fees. 

+ All classes include monthly take-home materials and a pass for five open play sessions.
+ Single class enrollment and previews include open play the day of the class.
+ There is a 10 percent discount for multiple enrollment. The discount is applied to the second class.
+ There are no refunds for missed classes. We provide open play sessions so that you may enjoy time at
ABQ's Playroom at your convenience in the event you miss a class. We only distribute one open play pass per child, even if the child is enrolled in multiple classes.


Little Picasso

Description
Little Picasso Preschool art curriculum provides exposure to the seven elements of art: line, shape, color, value, texture, form and space. We explore a new element each week.

Little Picasso's Toddler Art provides the smallest artists an opportunity to explore their creativity through painting.

Adult participation is required for this class.

Instructor:
Miss Monica has over 7 years experience as a children’s educator.  She received her BS in Education from the University of Phoenix.  Monica has worked as an early childhood educator at the Pueblo of Sandia Child Development Center and she recently completed a student teaching assignment at Rio Rancho Elementary School.

Description
Robotics with LEGO® (ages 4 - 9 years): We offer a basic and advanced class. In this hands-on technology class, students learn about simple machines and mechanisms, computer programing and build robotic models. There is a balance of classroom instruction, team and independent working. We use Intel®-Powered Classmate PCs and LEGO® Education sets and software.

Instructor:
Dr. Aaron has a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He is a research engineer at Sandia Labs, adjunct professor at UNM and volunteers his time teaching science and engineering classes to youth in the Albuquerque community.  Aaron also serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brother and Big Sisters.

Description
Kindermusik Sign and Sing (ages 6 - 24 months): Parents receive tools and knowledge to communicate with their babies using American Sign Language. Through songs and play, both parents and babies learn signs for words like "mommy" and "eat."

Kindermusik ABC Music & Me (separate classes for two age groups 18 - 36 months and ages 3 - 6 years): An award-winning, researched-based music enrichment program for 2 to 6 year olds. We get musical through instrumental play, song, dance, stories and games.

Adult participation is required for the toddler class.

Instructor:
Miss Adrienne has over 25 years experience as a children’s educator. She holds a BS in Music Education from The University of New Mexico. Adrienne has experience teaching in both public and private schools in Albuquerque. She is also an accomplished musician and vocalist.
